This is a picture I took towards the end of last October. It was the day that we brought Maggie home from the shelter to live with us.
A man drove out into a heavily wooded, mountainous area of the county just as the nights were starting to turn frosty. When he thought he found a suitable spot, he dumped Maggie and another dog out on the side of the road and drove quickly away. A woman who lived nearby saw him and went out to check on the dogs. She called the shelter and they came to pick the dogs up.
It makes me sad to this day to think that someone would just dump a pet in the middle of nowhere. Maggie is an old dog, but she is the most grateful, loving and obedient dog I have ever had. Sometimes I just don't understand people. I am not a person who goes nuts about animals and their treatment because I think there are more horrifying things that happen in this world every day to human beings. I just don't understand how human beings can be so callous in so many ways.

I could totally relate to your story with this shot BTW. My mum's adorable beagle -- also named Maggie(!) -- was rescued from an abusive owner as well.
Glad to see your Maggie has finally got a loving home too.

She's adorable!!! We have DaisyMae... a cat rescued from death row at the pound and EllieMae a cat discarded to give birth to her kittens under bushes in my front yard! It almost turned me into a 'crazy cat lady!!!' ;-)

Great story to accompany your picture. Sometimes the story is just as important as the pic.
My wife and I rescued a German Shepherd from an abusive household. The owner gave "Henley" up because he couldn't trust her around his girlfriend's child.
Fast forward 8 years and my wife and I have 2 small kids and "Henley" is simply wonderful around them. Goes to show you what a loving environment can do for everyone.

It makes me very sad when I hear about animals being abandoned/mistreated/discarded. I guess maybe some people should realize that their animals are a responsibility and not a disposible toy. I've brought home too many 'dump-dogs' and 'trashcan-cats' to mention. Then I tell my husband "Look what wandered up to the house today!" and I get to keep them. teehee

Thanks for sharing that story. What the comments to this story and image prove is that for every uncaring person there are at least seven (and more) that do care and take action to make at least their corner of the world a better place. :-) Peace,

Both our dogs are rescue dogs- including Zeus the moose, pictured over at our blog a little bit ago. He was also dumped and the shelter picked him up. He is huge, but he's very affectionate and I'm continually amazed at how smart he is.

Equuschick works at the animal shelter, and you really do not want to get her started on the way some people treat their animals.
Of course, some people treat their kids even worse, and then we adopt them, too.=)
